9500+ Communication Troubleshooting Guide

HyperTerminal

This guide is intended to be an aid in using HyperTerminal to communicate with Quantum Composers' pulse generators. The downloadable HyperTerminal configuration file is intended to be used in conjunction with this guide.

*Note: The configuration file is written to communicate with a baud rate of 9600 only.
  1. Plug in your instrument and power it on.
  2. Connect the pulse generator to the serial port of the computer using a standard straight through serial cable.
  3. Check the baud rate of the unit. This is done by pressing the gold function button and then the system button. The baud rate needs to be set at 9600 for the Communicationhelp HyperTerminal program to function correctly.
  4. Disable the echo function in the unit. This can be done from the same menu as the baud rate.
  5. Open the Communicationhelp.ht file.
  6. Type "*IDN?" and hit enter. The model number and firmware version is displayed.

  7. Communication with the instrument should now be established.

*Note: Should the first response to this command reflect "?1", please try the command a second time.

Ethernet Connectivity: IP Address & Raw TCP/IP Connectivity

This document describes one of the most popular methods of setting up Ethernet communication for the Quantum Composers pulse generators. The method discussed is Raw TCP/IP communication.
